Om, the mystic syllable of A- U- M is venerated by the Brahman as well as by the Buddhists. Historically, devotees regarded it to be too sacred to be uttered aloud only formed by the lips. The A-U-M Mantra generally begins with Om and ends with Hum.  This widely known mantra of Avalokitesora is the six syllable 'Om Mani Padme Hum'.
