Our Nepalese two headed drum or Damaru has a leather string tied over the narrow middle part of it. The knotted string makes a rattling sound on the drum’s membranes when swung. It is used with Trishul (Tridant) in association with lord Shiva. Shiva is often described as cosmic dancer, a great musician and his damaru represent the cosmic sound. The sound from the damaru beats the rhythm of the cosmic vibration and the energy is activated by the divine mother or shakti.
